Food choices and prostate wellbeing

Explore the role of an overall eating pattern, while keeping medical advice and symptom awareness at the centre.

Start with the pattern

A varied diet containing vegetables, fruit, pulses, whole grains and appropriate sources of protein can support general health. Tomatoes, beans and leafy greens are often discussed because they contribute fibre and a range of micronutrients, but research does not justify treating any ingredient as a cure.

Men with urinary changes, pain, blood in urine or semen, unexplained weight change or persistent concern should contact a GP. Nutrition information should complement, not delay, clinical assessment.

Questions to take into a consultation

  • Could my medicines or supplements affect urinary symptoms?
  • What screening or assessment is appropriate for my age and family history?
  • Are there foods, drinks or portions that seem to worsen my symptoms?
  • Would a referral to a dietitian be useful?
